Port Washington – It was Senior Day at Paul D. Schreiber High School in Port Washington on Tuesday. The seniors were looking to grab a much needed win and finish in fine style on this special day, and that is exactly what they were able to do as the Vikings knocked off Baldwin, 4-0.

The first half belonged to Port Washington as they took a commanding lead early in this Nassau Conference II match-up. Lauren Desimone and Danielle Rosmarin led the way for the Vikings as each scored and assisted on each other’s goals. Merely minutes into the game, Desimone scored off a high shot out of the reach of Baldwin keeper Carly Mertens. Then as the half was finishing up, Rosmarin got on the board as she sent home a shot off a rebound from Desimone to make the score 2-0.

So as the game went to halftime, that meant it was time to celebrate the seniors of Port Washington. With smiles abound, cameras flashing, and heavy hearts, each graduating member of the Port Washington squad was recognized for their contribution to the team.

Despite the festivities, once the whistle was blown, the fight in the Vikings was renewed. Port Washington continued to be on the offensive as they looked to grow their lead. They were successful in doing so with 21 minutes left in the game. Miranda Giovanco put a shot on net that scooted by Mertens, but didn’t have enough juice to get in the net, however teammate Katie Gennusa was there to put it away and give her team a 3-0 lead.

As the second half continued, the Lady Bruins started to get their offense going, but multiple chances in the half did not lead to a Baldwin goal. So, with 8:26 left, Port Washington was looking to close it out. That is exactly what they were able to do off the stick of Gennusa as she netted her second goal of the game, and the Vikings went on to win 4-0.

The victory for Port Washington improves their record to 6-2-1, and for Baldwin the loss drops them to 5-5-1.
