Port Washington shuts out Plainview
Port Washington struck fast, struck early, and struck often as the Vikings got contributions from three different goal scorers and shut out Plainview-JFK, 3-0 on MSGVarsity.com’s Livecast.
The Vikings got on the scoreboard first just ten minutes into the opening half as Krista Ledins got a feed in the box, turned and fired a quick shot past Plainview goaltender Brianna Bollettieri. The waning minutes of the first half saw some close scoring action as Port Washington nearly went up by two goals, only to see an Emily Rosenthal breakaway clang off the right post with just 4:00 remaining.
The Hawks of Plainview-JFK nearly put a mark on the scoreboard with 40 seconds remaining when Maria Chrysthanthem was stopped on a free kick by goaltender Michele Lammers.
As the second half began, the Vikings continued their charge as Kaitlyn Brown took a breaking feed and fired a shot past Bollettieri for a two-goal lead just eight minutes into the final stanza. Twelve minutes later, Port Washington added another insurance marker as Rosenthal avenged her near-goal off the post in the first half and handled a breaking feed from Jackie Avila for her first of the season.
Plainvew-JFK’s attempts to get back into the game were thwarted by a strong Viking defense, as well as some strong goaltending by Lammers.
Lammers best save of the game came with 13:45 left in the second half, deflecting a quick shot by Emily Stern over the net to keep the Hawks off the board.
