Power rankings: HV/WE girls basketball (1/15)

RANK TEAM REC LW COMMENTS
1 Ossining 8-3 1

Ossining cruised past Ardsley this week and has one of its two toughest Section 1 opponents on Wednesday in No. 3-ranked Alexander Hamilton. The Pride then face Norland (Miami, FL) on Friday at Bishop Ford, and have a full week off after that.

2 Irvington 9-1 2

Irvington has a great test against Pearl River on Wednesday before its host tournament this weekend. The Bulldogs are essentially playing the waiting game right now with the final matchup against Ossining and the section playoffs just around the corner.

3 Hamilton 12-0 3

Hamilton still hasn’t lost but faces Ossining on Wednesday. This game will be a great test for the Red Raiders and will help them down the line in the playoffs. Jasmine Robinson and Tiffany Corselli will be tasked with guarding Saniya Chong, and if they can keep her under 40, they may have a shot.

4 Lourdes 8-1 5

Lourdes continues to roll in 2013. They handed another unbeaten, John Jay-EF, its first loss of the season, and may be the favorites to come out of the tough Conference 1-A League. They have another tough matchup Wednesday against Beacon.

5 John Jay-EF 10-1 4

John Jay-EF lost to Lourdes last week, but bounced back nicely against Poughkeepsie and Beacon. The Patriots have had some trouble starting off games, but they’re one of the best in Section 1 when they get going.

6 Wallkill 9-0 6

Wallkill is in Class A, but it may be the best team in Section 9. Lisa Bouffard has continued to dominate and is averaging 23.5 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 4.5 spg and 4.3 apg.

7 Monroe-Woodbury 9-0 9

It’s time to start taking the Crusaders seriously. They have a legitimate shot at going undefeated and are in a neck-and-neck competition with Wallkill for Section 9’s best team. Monroe-Woodbury jumps Pearl River because of scores against common opponents and may be higher on this list in a few weeks.

8 Pearl River 8-1 7

Pearl River picked up three wins since our last rankings, but it has a real test Wednesday against Irvington. This stretch will be tough for Pearl River, as it plays the majority of its games in the second half of the season, and face North Rockland twice next week. Play well against Irvington and the Pirates move up.

9 Kennedy Catholic 9-2 8

The Gaels might not lose again this season with the way the schedule plays out. The real question is: can they compete with Irvington come playoffs? It may not be out of the question.

10 Arlington 9-2 10

This final spot is really just up for grabs. Clarkstown South, North Rockland, Pleasantville and Beacon are all in the mix, but Arlington takes it due to the tough league it plays in. All of the teams on the bubble will have a chance to move up in the next few weeks, as will Arlington.
