Some of the top junior boys lacrosse players will compete in the inaugural Dan Daly Cup at Glen Cove HS Saturday at Noon live on MSGVarsity.com.
The United States Marine Corps, in partnership with the Nassau County Coaches Association, New York Lizards and the City of Glen Cove will host the game, which will build awareness of the legacy of Dan Daly.
Sergeant Major Dan Daly was a two-time Medal of Honor recipient during the early 1900s and is one of the Marines Corps’ most admired heroes.
The rosters of both teams – Team Valor for Suffolk County and Team Virtue for Nassau County – feature some of the top rising seniors on Long Island. The squads will be coached by Andrew “Mookie” Alderman, a member of the Lizards staff since 2001, and Steve DeNapoli, a Lizards midfielder and former Hofstra and Hewlett HS standout.
Among the players on Team Valor are Thomas Liantonio, who had 18 goals and 10 assists for Miller Place, Northport’s Rocco Sutherland, who had 23 goals and 23 assists and Danny Murphy, who had 26 goals and 28 assists for Hauppauge.
Team Virtue features Griff Konen, who had 15 goals for the New York State Class A champion Massapequa, Hicksville’s Matt Arnone, who had 11 goals and 14 assists, and Glen Cove goalie Phil Grella, who made 179 saves.
