MSGVarsity.com Live Access heads to the Suffolk County Class AA boys basketball playoffs as the No. 7 Half Hollow Hills West Colts travel to Brentwood tonight to meet up with the No. 2 Indians. MSGVarsity.com will have all of the action beginning at 5:00 p.m.
Taking a look at the last time these two met up, Brentwood (16-2) knocked off HHH West (15-3) by ten points on the road in a 68-58 non-league victory on December 28. Marcus Cureton scored all 13 of his points in the second half, and nailed a corner three with 3:17 left to give Brentwood the lead for good. Mike Almonacy added 13 points, and Femi Olujobi scored 12 points in the win.
In the first round for the Colts, HHH West was able to breeze by Newfield last Friday by the final of 83-60. Terry Harris and Marcus Solomon each scored over 20 points with Harris lead all scorers with 22 on the night, Solomon finished with 21 and nine assists. Jamir Blackman (15) and Neneyo Mate-Kole (11) each scored in double-digits as well, Mate-Kole had a game-high 16 rebounds.
As for Brentwood, they had a more difficult road in the first round as they met up with a tough No.18-seeded Walt Whitman squad that gave them all they could handle. The Indians were able to secure a 46-41 victory on Friday after Marcus Cureton's runner from the baseline with 1:30 remaining gave Brentwood a 40-36 lead. Olujobi went for a double-double as he scored 15 points and added 17 rebounds.
Tonight’s victor will go on to face the winner of No. 6 Smithtown West at No. 3 Deer Park this coming Friday at Longwood High School at 5:00 p.m. in the semifinals.
