East Hills, NY – Well it’s another season and another sport for Locust Valley’s Alex Rawa to conquer. The outstanding athlete has already excelled this year in football and basketball, so why shouldn’t he succeed in lacrosse?

The senior puts his talents on display at Roslyn High School on Tuesday afternoon as his Falcons knocked off the Bulldogs by the score of 8-2. Rawa completed the hat trick while also adding 2 assists, and that kind of a performance was one while he also nursed a neck injury during the first half.

Luckily enough for Locust Valley a terrific first half was all that was needed.

Rawa got his team on the board first with a wraparound goal over the shoulder of Roslyn goalie Michael Lefcourt merely 2:27 into the game. Four minutes later, the Falcons extended their lead to 2-0 when Chris Appell found a cutting Joe Jacobi streaking through the offensive zone towards the goal. The senior delivered a seed to his counterpart who fired a low shot to the left of the goalie and into the net.

On the ensuing faceoff, Locust Valley once again got control of the ball. C.J. Paniccia made a swift move past the Bulldog defense, and in just a blink of the eye made it a 3-0 lead in just 11 seconds.

From there the Falcons would continue to show off their arsenal by outscoring Roslyn 4-1 to finish off the first half. However, perhaps the most important aspect of the offense was that it was five different goal scorers making the difference instead of putting the burden on a couple of team leaders.

For the game, Rawa led the way with his 5 points, but Paniccia scored 2 goals, Appell and Tom Nastasi each had a goal and an assist in the win.

On top of the stellar offensive effort, the defense shown off by the Falcons was suffocating. Roslyn was swarmed with defenders each time the Bulldogs came into their defensive zone. The home squad was only able to beat goalie Robert Bleistein two times in the game, both goals scored by Seth Bolnick, while the senior made 14 saves in the victory.

With the win, the Falcons continue their strong start for 2012 by improving their record to 3-1, with wins over Mepham and Kellenberg as well as Tuesday’s victory over Roslyn. Roslyn drop to 2-3 on the season with the loss.
