Ward Melville’s Crasa wins major gymnastics title

Thirteen states sent gymnasts to the competition hosted by the National High School Gymnastics Association, and Crasa was able to notch the top scores on the floor exercise (9.8) and the balance beam (9.65).

Commack’s McNelis is two-sport star at same time

The junior balances the two sports at the same time because Suffolk gymnastics takes place in the fall and Nassau in the winter. Different seasons lead to a championship at the end of winter at the same time as track, which she runs in the winter and spring. Her coaches don’t mind her splitting the time.

Miranda Lund wins state all-around gym crown

Lund won beam (9.350), placed second on floor (9.475) and placed third on vault (9.600). She became the first gymnast from Plainview JFK to win the all-around title at the state meet, and is the first Nassau gymnast to win it since Jess Panza of Island Trees in 2008.
