    SWR's Katherine Lee keeps conquering hills

    The Shoreham-Wading River freshman followed up her Class B public school state championship, won last week in Canton, with a top-five finish at the state Federation championships, held Saturday at Bowdoin Park.

    SJB's McCormack takes 2nd at CHSAA Intersectionals

    McCormack finished the 2.5-mile course in 15 minutes, 22.73 seconds. Lisa Fajardo of Brooklyn's Bishop Kearney won in 15:04.89.

    SWR's Lee wins cross country state title

    Lee, who finished in 18:45 at a 6:03 mile pace, became the first Wildcat to win the girls state cross country title, coach Paul Koretzki said.

    DeCicco paces Sachem East to Suffolk XC title

    Gerland ran the 5K course in 18 minutes, 58.15 seconds. Her older sister, Jen, placed second in 19:31.25. The finish was identical to last year's race.

    Commack's Hadity, SWR's Lee win 5k championships

    Joshua Hadity from Commack, that is. The senior won the 5k championship race in 16 minutes, 32.15 seconds Tuesday. Hadity topped Port Jefferson's James Burke, who finished second in 16:44.62 and Northport's Mike Brannigan, who was third in 16:49.62.

    Gerland sisters spark Garden City cross country

    Gerland is the top returner on Long Island. Last season, she placed sixth at the New York Federation Championships at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls, running the 5K course in 18 minutes, 45.3 seconds. The finish was the highest among Island girls.

    Mazzie, Melly win Dellecave Award

    The awards are presented annually to the male and female senior athletes of the year in Suffolk County by the Butch Dellecave Foundation in conjunction with the Economic Council of Suffolk, Inc., and Newsday. The awards, which come with $1,000 scholarships, also recognize outstanding academic achievement and community service.
