A dynasty has been built in Central Group 1, and Asbury Park hopes to maintain it.
The top-seeded Bishops can clinch their fourth sectional title in five years when they face No. 3 Florence on Saturday at The College of New Jersey.
Under the direction of former head coach Don Sofilkanich, Asbury Park rattled off three straight championship runs from 2007-09. When he bolted for the Neptune sideline prior to the 2010 campaign, Matt Ardizzone took over and went 5-5 in his first year.
Now, Ardizzone and his team are one victory away from restoring order in a bracket the program has dominated in recent years.
The Bishops enter 9-2, with their only losses coming against Rumson on November 5 and Neptune on Thanksgiving day. Defense has been a major reason for enjoying such success this season; Asbury Park has surrendered double-digit points just three times.
Meanwhile, Florence has used stingy defense to cruise into this weekend with a 10-1 record and plenty of confidene.
The Flashes dropped their season opener to Holy Cross, but have since won 10 in a row. In that span, they have given up more than 10 points just twice.
