    Bergen Catholic blanks Wayne Hills

Bergen Catholic was itching to keep its hot streak going, so the team did not take its latest tune-up game lightly.

So in preparation for Saturday's quarterfinal showdown in the Bergen County Tournament, the sizzling Crusaders brought their A-game during a 2-0 victory over Wayne Hills on Thursday afternoon.

Bergen Catholic, which improves 7-3-2, got a clutch tally from Erick Alonso 18 minutes into the first half and later received an insurance goal with 16 minutes remaining in the second from Gerard Quinn.

The Crusaders entered on fire thanks to Armin Grossrieder. The senior had scored three goals in his previous three contests, including the game-winners against Northern Highlands and then sixth-seeded Ridgewood on Sunday in overtime in the second round of the county tournament.

Bergen Catholic has its sights set on Bergenfield for Sunday afternoon's tilt at River Dell High School -- and the group is filled with confidence. The Crusaders are unbeaten in their last eight games and have surrendered just seven tallies in that span after allowing 11 in their first four.

Crusaders goalkeeper Justin Horowach was spectacular in between the pipes against Wayne Hills, which plays in the Passaic County semifinals on Saturday against top-seeded DePaul Catholic.
