In a match devoid of much attacking play, Bridgewater-Raritan and Pingry just couldn’t seem to work it effectively out of the middle third and the result was a 0-0 tie on Thursday.
The Cougars had the better of the scoring chances, including a brilliant opportunity for Rao Akshay in the 30th minute, but the junior’s volley attempt sailed over the crossbar, and that was as close as either team would come.
Neither goalkeeper was challenged often, but Pingry goalie Max Lurie did well to confidently steer the couple good crosses into the box wide of goal. Bridgewater-Raritan would earn several corner kicks but couldn’t find the right entry for a marker.
After losing 3-0 the first time these squads played back on Sept. 11, Miller Bugliari's Pingry team show marked improvement by possessing the ball a ton more in this meeting and these two teams are now developing a pretty healthy rivalry.
Pingry had won seven-straight Somerset County titles from 2004-2010 before Bridgewater-Rartitan shocked the Big Blue in last year’s title game. These two opponents are starting to get very familiar, and fans can only hope to see these two teams lock horns again come tourney time.
