On Monday, October 24, Hasbrouck Height’s JV rolled into Lyndhurst, unsure if they could maintain their undefeated status. Missing their quarterback and several linemen, the JV faced a tough Lyndhurst team. However, a strong performance from their sophomore quarterback Mike Schroback propelled the JV Aviators to a 32-14 victory.
Offensive linemen Chris Verdi, Ryan Palladino, Mark Hofmann, Robert Klenk and Dimitri Forde played a hard game up front, while the backs, under their protection, succeeded in scoring four times on the Golden Bears.
On defense, the Aviators struggled during the first half against a good Golden Bears offense. After halftime, the team came out fired up. The second half was dominated by the Aviator linebackers Klenk, Victor Arias, and Mauro Altamura, who punched holes in Lyndhurst’s offense. Coverage by cornerbacks Nico Waters, Dave Jackson, and safety Sage Scalvino shut down Lyndhurst’s potent pass game.
“We came out in the first half with no energy, and Lyndhurst played harder than us,” Klenk, a sophomore said. “After being fired up by our coaches at half-time, we came out in the second half and just blew their doors off.”
This win propels the JV Aviators to a 7-0 record. The team has allowed less than 30 points scored against them, while scoring over 170 points on offense. The JV team has only two more games to win to be undefeated. The team has two tough games against Secaucus and Pompton Lakes. Only time will tell if the JV Aviators will be undefeated this year.
