Northern Highlands won its second match in a row by defeating Fair Lawn, 2-0, in girls volleyball action on Thursday evening.

The much-anticipated showdown, which saw the Highlanders register victories by margins of 25-21 and 25-23, was live-streamed exclusively on MSGVarsity.com.

Fresh off a two-game, 25-17, 25-16 win over Ramapo on Wednesday, Northern Highlands improved to 15-6 overall thanks to a 10-kill performance by Alex Garrett. Julie Merrit added seven digs, while Lily Scanzillo had 19 assists.

Northern Highlands’ victory over the fellow North Jersey foe came at an opportune time, as it had previously fallen in two of its last four contests against Pascack Valley and Bergen Tech. The Highlanders had won five in a row prior to that stretch.

Meanwhile, the Cutters failed to bounce back from a two-game, 25-23, 25-18 setback to Demarest on Tuesday. Prior to that loss, they had gone 4-2 in their last six.

Fair Lawn was paced by Meagan Tuchler, who had four kills. Ashley Sudol chipped in three assists and Marissa Spinuzzi notched eight digs.

In the first game, Northern Highlands used a pair of 9-2 runs to create a deficit too large for its opponent to hurdle. In the ensuing contest, the Cutters showed plenty of fight, getting off to a 5-0 start and carrying that momentum throughout.

However, tied at 20, Northern Highlands ended on high note and escaped with the triumph, one that should further boost the team's morale as the playoffs loom.
