Video Formatting Troubleshooting

If you have been notified by MSG Varsity that there is a technical issue with your submitted QuickTime file, please double-check your file. Make sure that you have properly exported your finished movie for submission to MSGVarsity.com as follows:

     • Please make sure that you are uploading ONLY QuickTime files that have been
       exported to the settings below.
     • Do NOT upload the Final Cut project file (.fcp), Windows Media files (.wmv),
Flash video files (.flv), or any uncompressed, large QuickTime files that have
       been exported for archive/broadcast.

If you are exporting from Final Cut or iMovie:

1. To create a file specifically for upload to MSGVarsity.com, choose, “File > Export > Quicktime Conversion.” At the bottom of the “Save” window that will pop up, click the “Options” button next to the “Format” drop-down box (make sure “Quicktime Movie” is selected in the box).

2. In the “Movie Settings” box that pops up, click on the “Settings” button. In the new box, choose, “H.264” as the Compression Type. Set keyframes to every 2 frames, and under “Compressor” > “Encoding,” select “Faster encode (Single-pass).” Under “Data Rate,” select “Restrict to 2500 kbits/sec.” Hit “OK.”

3. Back in the “Movie Settings” box, click the “Size” button. In the new “Export Size Settings” box, select the “Dimensions” drop-down bar, and choose “NTSC 720 x 480 16:9.” Then check the box marked, “Deinterlace Source Video.” Hit “OK.”

4. Click “OFF” the box for “Prepare for Internet Streaming.”

If you are exporting from Adobe Premiere, please follow these settings:

• Format: Quicktime
• Preset Custom
• Codec H.264
• Basic Settings: Quality 80%
• Width: 720, Height: 480
• Frame rate: 29.97
• Field type: Lower first
• Aspect: D1/DV NTSC WIDE
• Bit rate: set bit rate at 8000 kbits/sec

If you are exporting from Avid, please follow these settings:

1. File>Export
2. Export as>Select Options Under Export Setting
3. Export Settings>Quicktime Reference DV Codec:
      • De-select “Use Avid Codec”
      • Select “Custom”
      • De-select “Use Marks,” De-select “Use Enabled Tracks,” Select “Enable Video
        and Audio”
      • Make sure video format is set to 720x480
