MSGVarsity.com’s Livecast stays on the girls soccer pitch and will feature a truly marquee matchup featuring the top two teams in League III as Smithtown West takes on Walt Whitman at 3:30 p.m.
Whitman is riding high off one of last year’s most shocking girls soccer upsets when the Wildcats, entering the postseason as a No. 16 seed, toppled top-seeded Sachem East in the first round of the Class AA playoffs.
Although its season came to an end in the next round, Whitman took all that momentum from the Sachem North game into 2011. The Wildcats enter this game sporting a 4-1 overall record, and currently on a three-game winning streak with its last two victories coming in a pair of 1-0 wins over Half Hollow Hills East and Smithtown East.
The Wildcats are also riding an unusual streak as their last ten games dating back from 2010 have all ended in a shutout either in a winning or losing fashion.
Smithtown West enters this matchup as the top team in League III with a 5-1-1 overall record.
The Bulls are looking to feed off a big win on Monday, topping a highly touted East Islip team 1-0. Gabby Scirica scored that game’s only goal to give the Bulls the top slot in the league.
These two teams did not meet last year, but it will surely be a must-see matchup. You can watch the action live on MSGVarsity.com Gametime Livecast at 3:30 p.m.
