Undefeated Morristown-Beard was awarded the top seed for the Morris County Tournament, ahead of Morris Knolls and four-time defending champion Mendham at Sunday’s seeding meeting at Morris Catholic in Denville.

Morristown Beard (12-0), led by Brian Bartner, Chris Jenkins and Harrison Rosemond, opens play next week against the winner of the preliminary game between 17th-seeded Butler and 16th-seeded Morris Hills to be completed by Saturday. The top seven seeds, which all gain byes until the first round, is rounded out by 4-Chatham, 5-Madison, 6-Mount Olive and 7-Mountain Lakes.

Mendham, the only school with three consecutive titles, will seek a fifth straight championship, but must do so without Tore Vicarisi, who graduated last spring after helping the Minutemen to those crowns as a freshman contributor and a three-year starter the following seasons.

First-round games, all at the court of the higher seed, are to be completed by Feb. 4. Subsequent rounds will be played on a neutral site starting with the Feb. 11 quarterfinals at Randolph High. The Feb. 18 semifinals and Feb. 25 championship will be half at the County College of Morris in Randolph.
