Brogno: Around the state in softball (4/17)
Congratulations to Pequannock coach Maryanne Goodwin on winning her 300th career game! The Golden Panthers defeated Mt. St. Dominic, 6-1, to improve their record to 4-2 on the season.
***IHA has outscored its opponents 63-0 in the first seven games. Sophomore pitcher Steph Thomas began the season tossing 48 scoreless innings for the Blue Eagles.
***Randolph's freshman phenom Cynthia Meringer is wielding a hot bat. She smacked three homers in one game last week, propelling the Rams to a 10-9 victory over Morristown.
***Edison's Eagles are emerging as the team to beat in the GMC.
Edison, now 7-0, beat East Brunswick, 2-0, last week to take the lead in the Red Division. Valerie Cassell tossed a one-hitter and struck out 13 against the Bears. The Eagles ace has not given up an earned run this season.
***Hard to find a better week on the diamond than the one Chatham just completed.
The Cougars defeated Mt. St. Dominic, Pequannock, St. John Vianney and Hillsborough all last week. I'd say that's somewhat impressive! Senior pitcher Amanda Fazio has five shutouts already this season.
