Head Coach Walt Keiper was hoping to spread out the scoring while not disrupting the offensive flow when he split up his top line. It sure worked.

His Morris Knolls team responded with a 9-0 rout of Mountain Lakes on Wednesday night.

The Mennen Division game was livecast exclusively on MSGVarsity.com, but viewers had to tune in early to see Jack Monaghan score two of his four goals, and by the end of the first it was 3-0 Morris Knolls.

Keiper’s bunch dominated the game soundly, outshooting and out-chancing Mountain Lakes in a game that was confidence inspiring for a coach breaking up such an electric trio.

“We wanted to get some more finesse on the other lines,” Keiper explained. “We had been searching for more offense, we wanted to juggle it around a bit and try to get some scoring on other lines. We have had that line scoring the majority of our goals.”

The entire group still managed goals in the game, and the third and fourth lines were able to chip in a pair for a team that looked to have a newfound balanced attack.

“I love playing with those guys, but we still play together on the power play,” Monaghan said. “This was our first game changing it up and working with the new guys was really good.”

It will be worth watching whether Morristown’s version of the legion of doom stays a power play-only unit, or if the big three find its way back on the top line together.

“It’s about building confidence and getting scoring throughout the team,” Keiper said. “Those guys can score wherever they play, they can finish with the best of them.”
