Steinert wins big in live-streamed battle
A pair of Colonial Valley Conference rivals squared off in a wrestling battle Wednesday night, but it was Steinert that came out on top of Robbinsville, 42-28.
Since dropping three straight to start the season, Steinert now is riding a five-game winning streak and looking to keep the momentum going under head coach Adam Jankos.
The Spartans swept a tri-meet with Bordentown and Trenton Central this past Saturday before silencing a big rival in a live-streamed showdown on MSGVarsity.com.
Senior Joe Michel, a returning District 25 champion and two-time region fourth-place finisher, won by forfeit at 126 pounds, while sophomore River Ulrich, a district runner-up last season, pinned Troy Hoffman at the 5:15 mark of the third period at 182 pounds.
Aside from these two usual team leaders, Tyler Beers, Troy Flood, Shawn Augustyn, Matt McDonald, Sean McDonald, and John Bussi won their respective bouts for Steinert.
For the Ravens, sophomore Christopher Tan is their top returner from a season ago when he finished third in the District 25 Tournament at 106 pounds.
Tan toppled Nate Benitez in the match's opening session, 13-1. Aruinbulo Munkhtur followed with a pin of Woodley Cherubin in just 34 seconds in 113.
Sam Acheampong, Dave Stewart, Sal Fosam and Tyler Gildner also won for Robbinsville, which fell to 2-4 overall.
