Bosco, Ridgewood get top seeds in Bergen
Don Bosco Prep and Ridgewood aligned themselves for a possible second straight championship meeting by claiming the top two seeds, respectively, for the Bergen County Tournament.
Don Bosco (9-0), No. 4 in the MSG Varsity New Jersey Power Rankings, picked up the No. 1 seed, followed by 13th-ranked Ridgewood (6-5), third-seeded Glen Rock (10-0) and fourth-seeded Mahwah (6-4). Ridgewood won the 2011 BCT title with a 9-6 victory over the Ironmen.
But Don Bosco exacted a measure of revenge two weeks ago with a 13-9 win over Ridgewood. Conor Scavone and Jack Ray blasted in three goals apiece and Max Allen and Marc Buermann each contributed two while teammate William Collopy turned back 16 shots.
Ridgewood fell to 2-4 with that loss, but the Maroons have since won four of five behind the solid offensive play of Max Luing and Jack Allard and the defense of Tripp Telesco, Ryan Ghaderi and goalie Noah Pounds. Ridgewood is 3-1 this season against Bergen County competition.
Eight first-round games are scheduled for Saturday at the home fields of the higher seeds. The quarterfinals are May 8 at the higher seed and the semifinals May 10 as a 5/7 p.m. doubleheader at Ridgewood. The championship will be played May 12 at Mahwah at 3 p.m.
