River Dell runners going strong this winter

With over 100 students participating in winter track, it is one of the most popular sports River Dell has to offer. River Dell’s success in winter track was prevalent during this season. This year the team has competed in seven meets and has placed in many events.

The first meet was a kickoff to the season called the Spiked Shoe event at the Armory Track Center in New York City. Both boys and girls teams had placing, including second place by the girls 4x4 team, which consisted of Sam Schleiger, Melissa Gibbons, Paige Fernandez and Jamie woods.

The team once again competed at the Armory for the Track Universe meet. This meet was the greatest success, with many placing and the tying of school records by Craig Marulis in the 200 and 400. Grace Behrens also tied with the girls high jump record of five feet.

At the Northern NJ track Championships in FDU the girls team tied with Newark Tech in the small school title, the 4X4 and 4X8 teams doing a big part by placing first in both events.

At the Ridgewood Winter Games in Rockland Community College many medals were brought home from both the girls and the boys teams. Matt Koh won the shot put for the boys. Jamie Woods won the 55m high hurdles for the girls. Other place winning points scorers included; Chris Bang, Craig Marulis, Christian Flego, Austin Berninger, Brandon Jurasin, Calvin Hartmann, Melissa Gibbons, Sam Schleiger, Emily Croonquist, Laura Oh, Erin Smith, Stacey Zaccaria, Grace Behrens, Paige Fernandez, Bridget Brindley and both the boys and girls 4X400 relay teams.
