Brognostications: Week 6VIDEOS

Though Wayne Hills may not have gotten as many opportunities as usual, its running back corps didn't mind.

They stole the show anyway.

Cristian Rodriguez scored two touchdowns and Dom Santoro added another as Wayne Hills remained undefeated by edging Ridgewood, 28-21, in a live broadcast game on MSG Varsity iO Ch. 14 on Friday.

"Their offense kept the ball away from us," Patriots quarterback Kevin Olsen admitted, but not before reiterating they improved their sterling record to 6-0 nonetheless.

After Blake Feagles broke off a 79-yard run for a score in the opening minute of the third quarter to help Ridgewood pull even at 14-14, Rodriguez notched a 5-yard touchdown with 2:21 remaining in the session for a lead his team wouldn't relinquish.

Santoro, meanwhile, added a short scoring run with 9:18 left in the fourth to seal the win for the Patriots, who should maintain their spot as the No. 9 team in MSG Varsity's tri-state poll.

Peter Rueter found the end zone with 3:21 left to pull the Maroons within seven, but they couldn't avoid falling to 1-4 on the season.

Ridgewood’s Jason Canella opened the scoring by scampering into the end zone from 13 yards out with 5:34 remaining in the first quarter. It was the second touchdown Wayne Hills has surrendered all season. However, Andrew Monoghan evened the contest at 7-7 with 46 seconds left in the session by registering a 10-yard score.

Rodriguez handed the Patriots a 14-7 edge midway through the second by capitalizing on a 1-yard run.

Troy Zaffino, the hero in 2010 when he ran back a kick-off for a touchdown in the waning seconds of the North 1 Group 3 championship, valiantly returned to the field after suffering a torn ACL in Week 1.

"It's him being a tough guy," Olsen said. "He stepped up and he's just another guy other teams have to worry about."
