In March, Al Cappello resigned as head football coach at Passaic Valley due to personal reasons. The Little Falls school district quickly began a search a suitable replacement. One month later, they have their man.
Bill Johnson, who was Cappello's defensive coordinator for the last three years, was chosen last week by the school board by unanimous decision to succeed Cappello.
It's a return engagement for Johnson as the Hornets' head coach. He also helmed the squad from 1999-2003. The board of education wanted someone with previous head coaching experience, and Johnson fit the bill.
"It’s going to be a little bit tougher this time around for me this time around, then my first stint at PV," said Johnson. "Last time around, I was trying to please everyone."
Coach Johnson has already reached out to coaches in local youth league with long-term goals in mind for the future of Passaic Valley football. There is much anticipation for “Johnson Era II” at Passaic Valley High School, and a lot of questions to be answered before the Hornets open up the 2012 campaign against Ramapo five months from now.
The Hornets has a very rich history of gridiron glory. They have made the playoffs 16 times since 1974 and reached the North 1 Group 3 championship game seven times, capturing four state titles.
