Brogno: Around the state in softball (4/25)
* Congratulations to IHA's Carly Picinnich on becoming the all-time hits leader for the Blue Eagles. The lefty hitting senior second baseman delivered her 157th career hit, breaking a record set in 1996 by Christy Dellapenta. The Notre Dame-bound Picinnich is hitting .597 on the season.
* How about Morris Knolls? The Golden Eagles soared high last week going 5-0. Included in that five-game win streak were wins over Chatham (1-0) and Toms River East (13-6). Providence-bound senior Kiki Baldasarri went 11-for-15, including a leadoff homer against Parsippany.
* The Monmouth County Tournament seedings were announced on Monday with St. John Vianney capturing the No. 1 spot. The second seed went to Middletown South, with Wall and Allentown garnering the third and fourh seeds, respectively.
Those are four pretty good teams capturing the top four seeds; all four are ranked in the MSG Varsity New Jersey Top 15. The Monmouth County Final is set for Saturday, May 19 at 1 p.m. at Wall High School.
* There's a huge game slated for this Friday, April 27, as unbeaten and 12th-ranked Allentown (10-0) takes on undefeated and second-ranked Robbinsville (8-0).
The Redbirds are averaging close to 10 runs per game, but they are going up against one of the top pitchers in the state in Lauren Fischer (0.65 ERA). Robbinsville, the defending Group 2 state champs entered this week riding a 33-game winning streak. Game time is 4 p.m. in Robbinsville.
