The Olsen Files notebook: Day 4
Day 4: February 29, 2012
It's 1 p.m. We have a brief staff meeting at MSG Varsity headquarters with Leandra, Lardy and Quick.
Lardy, the boss and former Boston College trench warrior from the late 60’s, is sipping his diet Canada Dry ginger ale sitting beside Leandra, the project consultant and his wife, and Quick…with a face, only a mother can love.
This is going to be a short entry because we reviewed who the core members of this documentary will be.
Emmy winning producer Tony D’Angelo and Erasmo Farinas (Raz) will be behind the scenes putting the story together. One of them will be on every shoot with me from here on out.
Roy Porkorny and Carlos Flynn will be the two cameraman involved, sprinkled with a little of Chris Petracora as a back up shooter. These are a talented group of shooters and editors.
The main editor will be Keith Brooke, lighting will be handled by Eric Badau. Mike Quick will handle interviews locally and I will be entrenched with the Olsen family like a fourth son.
We found out today that Quick will be the story teller and will set up the entire movie; that’s his M.O. It is a unique way to tell the story in documentary-form. Quick is an expert on high school sports in the tri-state area as he has been the television host of high schools sports on a weekly basis for a couple of decades. He knows high school athletes inside and out; it is his passion. It is his life.
We also identified when Quick will do his first official interview with Kevin and coach Olsen. On March 9 beginning at 10 a.m. I cant wait. Leandra, Quick and I came up with 10 questions that we should focus on. Things like pressures, social life, intangibles, college decisions, family decisions, what it like to be in the spot life kind of questions.
I'm really looking forward to learning from the best in the business. The great Mike Quick. No one in the tri-state area is better at what he does over the last 25 years than The Big Guy. In my opinion the best broadcaster, producer, director, writer, storyteller and person in the country. I have learned so much in the 13 years I have known him.
Next up, Tuesday March 6, we follow Kevin to One Human Performance Center in Montville N.J., for some unique offseason training.
