The Olsen Files notebook: Day 8

The Olsen Files notebook: Day 8

Day 8: March 15, 2012

Mike Quick says the next shoot that I’m assigned tois the Wayne Hills High School junior prom!

I wasn’t able to go to my junior prom because I had to study. So I was very excited to dance the night away and relive a lost experience. I rented a tux, got my shoes shined and did a few sit-ups to fit into my cumberbund.

As I was heading out the door, Quick calls and tells me that I am not actually going to the big dance, just to the Olsen house for pictures. The "Electric Slide" will have to wait another day.

I returned the tux and picked up Raz to document the pre-prom ritual of taking photos with Kevin and his date, Christina, and, of course, her parents and Kevin’s family.

Kevin will drive his mother’s SUV to the dance; he was washing the car when we arrived. Coach was on the couch, with the family dogs, Heisman and Willy. The dogs were watching the NCAA basketball tournament as it is a March Madness weekend.

Kevin finished washing the car and hung with us for a little before he headed upstairs to get ready.

Coach and I went outside on the porch and played with he dogs, we chatted about the upcoming travel plans. First he tells me we are heading to Miami and then Auburn for Kevin's unofficial visits.

While we are talking, I scooped up the ball Willy, the five-month old the boxer was playing with, and chucked on a down and out. Willy made a good cut, caught the pass but got a serious splinter. I can’t believe he went after the ball with an injured paw. He truly is an Olsen.

Kevin got dressed in a slick black suit with a bright pink tie, Christina in a beautiful dress the same color as the tie. Both sets of parents met for the first time, very pleasant and full of excitement on both ends.

They spent about 30 minutes taking pictures and talking. Everyone reminiscing about their respective proms. Me, of course, reflecting on hitting the books. Raz was shooting the entire time. He captured a very memorable and personal side of the No. 1 QB in the entire nation.

Kevin makes time for an active social life. He dates and he hangs out with his buddies. He appears very well-rounded, and I love it. Kevin said they would either go to a comedy club or head to the diner with his group after the big dance.

All signs point to having a blast and not worrying about anything football related.
