    Long Island Lutheran, ranked No. 6 in the Tri-State and No. 1 on Long Island by MSG Varsity, won the physical battle, and the game, in Friday's 75-50 victory over Nazareth.

    Cosgrove, Aspuru give Sachem East big win

    Cosgrove, a 6-4 sophomore, was dominant on the low block with 27 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks. Aspuru, a 6-0 junior, helped get the ball inside to Cosgrove, and scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half.

    Hilaire not only had 30 points and 10 assists, but helped contain Zaffiro as Floral Park defeated North Shore, 64-52, in a girls basketball game to move into a tie for first in Conference A-III.

    North Shore’s Zaffiro is quite the sophomore

    That Zaffiro already finds her name at the top of North Shore’s scoring list with more than two full seasons remaining shows her offensive prowess. With her limitless range and ability to attack the basket, she is currently second in scoring in Nassau with 28.5 points per game.

    Jones-Pack wasted no time Tuesday night showing off those post moves and the basketball genes that run in her family. She scored 17 of her season-high 30 points in the first quarter to propel St. Anthony’s to a 69-41 win over host St. Mary’s in CHSAA girls basketball.

    Siler twins lead Seaford past Friends

    Fraternal twins Jenna and Julia Siler led the host Vikings to a 48-37 win over Friends Academy in Nassau A-IV Tuesday night. Jenna scored a game-high 18 points (11 rebounds), while Julia had seven points and five assists.

    The 5-9 sophomore — yes, a sophomore — eclipsed the previous school record set by Alex Cantwell (1,135) from 2011-2015 when she drilled a three-pointer with three minutes left in the second quarter of North Shore’s 75-43 win over host Lawrence on Thursday night.

    Hingher, Heimbauer stand tall for Massapequa

    Melanie Hingher and Gabriella Heimbauer are particularly imposing. Each stands 6-1 and is tough in the paint. The offense ran through them in Friday night’s 60-33 win over visiting Syosset in Nassau AA-I.

    Sanne van Poelgeest hits winner for Islip

    After stealing a pass, Hande pushed the ball downcourt and passed to van Poelgeest, who hit the winning shot with 4.3 seconds remaining to give Islip a 43-41 Suffolk V girls basketball victory over Harborfields on Thursday.

    St. Anthony’s has five seniors — Jones-Pack, Sarah Edmond, Taylor Goode, Ally Murphy, and Etalyia Vogt — who will play D-I college basketball.
