    LONG ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP

    Saturday, November 12 (at St. Joseph's College)

    (S1) Smithtown East 3, (N1) Massapequa 1

    Delia Phillips had six kills and three digs in the fourth game as the Bulls beat Massapequa, 25-21, 17-25, 25-18, 28-26, to win their first Class AA Long Island championship since the program split into two teams.

     

    FINAL

    Thursday, November 10 (at St. Joseph's College)

    (1) Smithtown East 3, (2) Lindenhurst 2

    Delia Phillips had 28 kills and 13 digs, Maggie Engellenner had 40 digs and Trish Baxley added 19 kills as Smithtown East (18-2) won the Suffolk Class AA title. It is their first county title since 2000 and first since the program split into East and West teams in 2005. They will play Massapequa for the LI championship, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue.

     

    SEMI-FINALS

    Tuesday, November 8 (at higher seed)

    (1) Smithtown East 3, (5) West Islip 0

    Delia Phillips had 17 kills, Maggie Engellenner had 24 digs and four aces and Trish Baxley added 11 kills as No. 1 Smithtown East (16-2) beat No. 5 West Islip 25-16, 25-16, 25-23 in the Suffolk Class AA semifinal. Smithtown East will play No. 2 Lindenhurst in the finals Thursday at 8 p.m. at St. Joseph's College. According to coach George Alamia, this is Smithtown East's second appearance in the Class AA final in the last three years.

    (2) Lindenhurst 3, (3) Ward Melville 2

    Rachel Ramirez had 16 kills, seven blocks and eight digs and Ajsha Mekolvic had 12 digs and four aces as No. 2 Lindenhurst (16-2) came from two sets down to beat No. 3 Ward Melville (16-3) 23-25, 14-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-20 in the Suffolk Class AA semifinal. Lindenhurst will try for its third consecutive Class AA title when it takes on No. 1 Smithtown East Thursday at 8 p.m. at St. Joseph's College.

     

    QUARTERFINALS

    Saturday, November 5 (at higher seed)

    (1) Smithtown East 3, (8) Patchogue-Medford 0

    Delia Phillips had 21 kills and Maggie Engellenner added six aces and 17 digs as No. 1 Smithtown East (15-2) beat No. 8 Patchogue-Medford 25-21, 25-12, 25-10 in the Suffolk Class AA quarterfinals. Smithtown East will host No. 4 West Islip in the semifinals Tuesday.

    (5) West Islip 3, (4) Connetquot 1

    Erin Byrnes had 17 kills and three aces, Carolina Blasczcynska had 12 kills and two blocks, and Erin Walsh had 42 assists to lead No. 5 West Islip (11-4) over No. 4 Connetquot (10-5) in the Suffolk Class AA Quarterfinals. West Islip will play No. 1 Smithtown East in the semifinals on Tuesday at Smithtown East.

    (3) Ward Melville 3, (11) Smithtown West 0

    Emily Astarita had 16 kills, Jayne Imperato had 11 kills and four aces, and Lauren O'Hern had 27 assists and three aces to lead No. 3 Ward Melville (14-2) over No. 11 Smithtown West 25-16, 25-9, 25-11 in the Suffolk Class AA Quarterfinals. Ward Melville will play No. 2 Lindenhurst in the semifinals on Tuesday at 5:00 at the higher seed.

    (7) Newfield 0, (2) Lindenhurst 3

    Ajsha Mekulovic had three aces, 10 digs and five kills, Emily Clemens had seven digs, 15 kills and 20 assists and Kayla Morgan had five aces and 18 digs to lead No. 2 Lindenhurst (15-2) over No. 7 Newfield, 25-11, 25-12, 25-13, in the Suffolk Class AA quarterfinals. Lindenhurst hosts No. 3 Ward Melville in the semifinals Tuesday at 5 p.m.

     

    FIRST ROUND

    Thursday, November 3 (at higher seed)

    (9) East Islip 2, (8) Patchogue-Medford 3

    Rebecca Gordon had 13 kills to lead No. 8 Patchogue-Medford (10-4) in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. They will visit No. 1 Smithtown East in the quarters, Saturday at 2:30 p.m. East Islip is 9-6.

    (11) Smithtown West 3, (6) Longwood 0

    Shelby Tietjen had 17 kills, three aces and two blocks, and Kimberly Waldvogel added 15 digs and four aces as No. 11 Smithtown West (9-7) beat No. 6 Longwood 25-16, 25-12, 25-20 in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. Smithtown West will play at No. 3 Ward Melville Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the second round.

    (10) Half Hollow Hills West 0, (7) Newfield 3

    Brittney Olazagasti had 14 kills, 17 digs, and five blocks, Katie Shannon had 29 assists and six digs, and Alyssa Paterson had nine kills, 12 digs, and four blocks to lead No. 7 Newfield (10-3) over No. 10 Half Hollow Hills West (9-4) 25-10, 25-19, 25-18 in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA Playoffs. Newfield will play No. 2 Lindenhurst in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 2:30 at Lindenhurst.
