For the average high school freshman, flawlessly singing for a crowded theater filled with stage lights and camera crews is an unattainable dream. Not for Nick Tangorra, however, as the remarkable Bethpage High School freshman considers this scenario the product of his involvement in MSG Varsity’s Talent Show.

Tangorra is one of the 32 talented high school performers chosen to compete on the second season of the MSG Varsity Talent Show, which premieres on April 15th at 8 p.m. on MSG Varsity. Tangorra is entered in the individual vocalist category, and is competing against 15 other singers for a two-day professional studio experience which includes working with an award-winning producer to cut a demo CD and a professional photo shoot. However, after speaking with Nick about his impressive performances, it is clear that he is motivated by love for music.

"It would mean everything to me to win the competition,” Tangorra said. “This is a dream come true. Music is my passion, and I think it’s great that MSG Varsity has this opportunity for kids.”

Jared Cotter, former Americal Idol semifinalist and host of MSG Varsity’s weekly competition, has some advice for Nick and all of the high school students taking part in the show.

“The most important thing {to make it in the entertainment business} is to keep at it,” Cotter said. “You need patience and hard work. Sometimes you hear things like ‘overnight sensation,’ but that doesn’t happen. It takes time, and persistence is key.”

This is great news for Tangorra, who is no stranger to hard work and perfecting his craft. He started singing at just three-years old, and joined a Columbian folk band, his first performing group, at five.

“My brother has always been my biggest inspiration,” Tangorra said with a charismatic smile. “When I was five, I was in a Columbian folk band. He was originally a drummer and they needed a singer, so I joined, and the rest is history.”

As if Tangorra’s musical abilities weren’t impressive enough, he also finds time to use his gift to assist charitable causes. He is an award-winning committee member of Rock Out Autism, which raises money for children and adult programs and encourages mentoring for those with autism. Additionally, Nick is involved with Find The Courage, an anti-bullying campaign that encourages children to stand up for themselves.

A natural entertainer, Tangorra has a captivating personality that compliments his singing voice. He is very excited and grateful to be a competitor on the MSG Varsity Talent Show, so don’t forget to watch him perform on May 6th at 8 p.m. Then go and vote for him on:
