Livecast primer: Wantagh vs. Brentwood
We hit the mat as MSGVarsity.com presents its first Long Island wrestling livecast of the winter season as Wantagh takes on Brentwood in a high-profile non-league dual meet.
This afternoon’s dual meet will be the season-openers for both teams.
The Warriors of Wantagh High School are riding high from a very successful 2011 season in which they captured a Nassau County title for the third time in the school’s history. They also sported a New York State champion, won by Joe Kavanagh who defeated fellow Long Islander, Frank Abbondanza from Mount Sinai in the 189 pound division.
Kavanagh’s state title was the ninth state champion in school history, and its sixth since 2006.
Brentwood, led by head coach Ralph Napolitano, comes into the 2011-2012 season after finishing as last year’s Suffolk League I runner-up. Alex Gomez also finished with a second-place finish in the NYS 125 pound division.
