Holy Trinity's Taylor Lambrou won her first CHSAA Girls Golf Championship Wednesday at Eisenhower Park White, shooting an impressive 3-over-par 75.

Lambrou, a senior, finished two strokes ahead of St. Anthony's Tina Chang, and leads the six Long Island golfers who qualified for the CHSAA State Championships, which will be June 4 at Eisenhower Park.

"I was excited," Lambrou said. "It felt great, it's my senior year, so it's definitely special."
Lambrou closed her round with a birdie on the par-5 18th hole, answering Chang's birdie on the hole to clinch the victory.

Lambrou faced a bit of adversity on the ninth hole, but her recovery propelled her through the back nine. At the ninth, Lambrou drove the ball under a tree, then into a bunker, but saved par by chipping out to the edge of the green and then sinking a putt.

"I didn't play it too well, but I chipped over the green and chipped it in to save par and I think that kept me in a positive mood to start the same way on the back nine," Lambrou said.

Trinity coach and Lambrou's father, Nick Lambrou, said Taylor's performance was very satisfying.

"It's an unbelievable feeling, I'm so proud of her," Nick Lambrou said. "I've had a smile on my face for a couple of hours now."
