Mo, Ching, Yang lead Great Neck South

Great Neck South swimming standout Sam Mo has made the state cut in every individual event except diving this year. There's no denying Mo is a star in the lanes and a leader. But to call him the sole reason GNS is once again in first place? Well, let's not quite go that far.
With Mo at a swimming meet in Switzerland, GNS nevertheless topped host Long Beach, 97-79, yesterday.

"We have a great deal of depth," coach Andy Berlin said. "We don't have a single thrust and we're a tough team to swim against because we can be so different that it's hard to figure out what's coming at you."

To Berlin's point about depth: three swimmers each finished yesterday as triple winners. Dan Mo, Sam's brother, won the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.97), making the state cut, and the 100-backstroke (56.46). Ben Ching made the state cut in the 500-free (4:55.13) and also took first in the 200-free (1:50.48). Pat Yang won the 50-free (22.84) and 100-free (50.71), and the trio was part of the first-place finish in the 400-free relay (3:29.53).

GNS (7-0) led from the first event and won 11 of 12 overall. Matthew Shouldis, Ryan Murray, Drew Cohen and Nicholas Stoski won the 200-free relay (1:36.75) for the lone victory for Long Beach (4-3).
