Archbishop Stepinac Track 2012 wrap-up
This year’s track season has definitely been one to remember. Not only has the size of the team tripled, but also their accomplishments have made the Stepinac community truly proud.
Tim Faranda won the freshman CHSAA Championship in the javelin and placed 9th in the varsity events. Malcolm Major has been a tremendous athlete on the football field and now his talents are overflowing onto the track. Malcolm won gold at the freshman sectionals 100 meter race, clocking in at 11.4. Liam Barry has taken interest in one of the most difficult track events, the pole vault, and came in 6th place overall in the freshman CHSAA clearing 10 feet.
The school’s sophomore class has some of the strongest competitors in this year’s CHSAA. Albert Mehaj, Angelos Paradisis, Robert Bambil, and Joe Abreu earned silver for sophomores in the 4x1 relay. Matt Desjardin placed 2nd overall in the triple jump and long jump with 38’6” and 18’1”. Stepinac’s fastest student-athlete, Joe Abreu, came in 2nd place overall in the 200meter dash, running 23.20.
Congratulations to the Stepinac Track and Field team for doing exceptionally well this year! We look forward to watching this young, focused and exciting group grow next year.
