BRADENTON, Fla. – Don Bosco Prep braved the rigors of facing a West-Coast powerhouse last week. On Friday evening, the Ironmen braved the heat of Florida.

Competing in temperatures that reached the mid-90s at kick-off, Don Bosco overcame a halftime deficit and got two clutch touchdowns from Jabrill Peppers to edge Manatee High School, 22-16, at Joe Kinnan Field at Hawkins Stadium.

The much-anticipated matchup, which was live-streamed exclusively on MSGVarsity.com, featured the best high school football team in the country and an annual juggernaut from the Sunshine State.

Don Bosco maintained its sterling reputation for handling out-of-state foes with ease. The Ironmen have defeated De La Salle (Calif.), Gilman (Md.), St. Ignatius (Ohio), Prattville (Ala.), and, most recently, Mission Viejo (Calif.) over the last two years.

Now, the heralded program extended its state-long winning streak to 37 games.

In this contest, Peppers opened the scoring for Don Bosco by rushing for a 31-yard touchdown, but the extra point was not converted.

Anthony Lauro, a heralded running back in the state of Florida, helped Manatee puncture the Ironmen defensive unit by scampering for a score midway through the following quarter to take a one-point advantage into the half.

Rutgers-bound wide receiver Leonte Carroo caught a 63-yard touchdown early in the fourth to forge a 15-10 lead, and Peppers added another with seven minutes remaining to propel head coach Greg Toal's team to victory.

The Ironmen (2-0) built off an impressive triumph in Week One. Last Saturday, Peppers and John Wilkins scored two rushing touchdowns apiece, while Elijah Shumate contributed another, as Don Bosco cruised to a 35-7 victory over California powerhouse Mission Viejo at Granatell Stadium in a live-broadcast game on MSG Varsity iO Ch. 14.
