Class B, C, and D all-state football teams released
What does rushing for 1,885 yards and 30 touchdowns in just nine games get you?
The Class C State Player of the Year Award.
Bronxville senior running back Christian Conway was named the top player in Class C in New York after being named to the first team all-state team a year ago. Conway is the second consecutive player from Bronxville to be named the state player of the year after Stephen Shoemaker won it in 2010.
171 players were named to the Class B, Class C, and Class D all-state teams today, and the Hudson Valley was represented very well with 41 of them. Last year, the Hudson Valley had 40 players named to the all-state teams in the small schools. The Class AA and Class A all-state teams will be released tomorrow.
Dobbs Ferry, which took home the Class C state championship, led the way with five named to the all-state team including Eddie Ritch, John Yozzo-Scapperotta, and Darien Bica on the first team, with Tim Soave and Spencer Avalos on the second team.
Bronxville and Croton-Harmon each had four players named to the all-state team in their respective classes as well. Along with Christian Conway, Bronxville was represented by his brother Jackson Conway, Sean Callahan, and Sean Triandis.
Croton-Harmon’s four senior captains were all named all-state as well in Class B. Dennis O’Connell, John Brennan, Kyle Ricciardi, and quarterback Jesse Mainiero were all recognized. Mainiero was especially excited about being named to the first team quarterback position.
“It was awesome for all of us to get on the all-state team together and I never expected to be named as a quarterback, but it was a great surprise,” Mainiero said. “One of my teachers said he was refreshing the website all afternoon waiting for it, and when it came out we all went nuts at lunch.”
Mainiero wasn’t sure about his football future before this year, but it’s starting to come together now.
“At first I thought maybe I wanted to go to a really big school and just be a college student, but I didn’t want that loss to be the last time I put on shoulder pads,” Mainiero said. “So I’m looking at different schools like Marist and Wagner to play defensive back, and schools like Ithaca, Cortland, and Central Connecticut State to play quarterback.”
Other schools with multiple players named to the all-state team include Marlboro, Rye Country Day, Lourdes, Woodlands, O'Neill, Chester, and Haldane.
