The Patriots captured their second straight Section 1 championship and did it in thrilling fashion, beating rival Ketcham in a walk-off victory in the Class AA final. They learned how difficult repeating as state champions was, losing in the regional finals to Valley Central. |

The Indians were so close to exacting some revenge on rival John Jay-EF. After losing in last year’s semis and twice this season, they rallied for six runs in the top of the seventh in the Section 1 final before falling. But the future is bright for Ketcham, which will enter next season a favorite to win Class AA. |

Going into the postseason, few thought the Bulldogs would be a factor, let alone the eventual champs. But things clicked for Beacon at just the right time, leading to upset win over four-time champion Pearl River in the quarters, and then Tappan Zee and Brewster for the title. |

The Vikings’ breakthrough season ended in the semifinals with a loss to Ketcham. South leaves 2012 as Rockland County’s best team, which was confirmed with a victory over Pearl River in the final weekend of the regular season. This talented senior class left its mark. |

The four-year reign as Section 1 champs ended with a frustrating nine-inning loss to eventual champion Beacon in the quarters. But this isn’t the end of the dynasty. With Sam Alicandri and Mandy McCarthy returning, the Pirates will start next season atop a deep pool of Class A contenders. |

The Panthers upset Marlboro and made an unexpected to run to the Section 9 final, losing to champion Cornwall, who they beat earlier in the season. Wallkill got to its first ever title game with terrific pitching, led by senior star Caitlyn Callas, and exceptional defense. |

The Iron Dukes were on a tear before an upset loss to Wallkill in the Section 9 Class A semifinals, a game that ended with the tying run getting thrown out at home plate. But it shouldn’t take away from an exceptional season where so many young stars stepped up and played major roles. Despite the graduation of star Emily McDonough, the future is bright. |

The Bears got hot late and rode the wave all the way into the Section 1 Class A title game. As a No. 7 seed, they knocked off Pelham and Ursuline before falling to Beacon in the final. Their other four losses this season came to Class AA teams — twice to Ketcham, to two-time champion John Jay-EF, and sectional semifinalist Carmel. | |

The Koalas continued to assert themselves as one of the Hudson Valley premier softball programs. Moving down from Class AA after appearing in the sectional final, Ursuline overcame injuries to earn a top three seed in the Section 1 playoffs, which was highlighted by a thrilling win over rival Eastchester. |

The Vikings went deeper in the postseason than any team from the Hudson Valley, capturing the Section 1 Class B title and reaching the state final four. The four-time Section 1 champs had a strong nuclear and appear to be in line for a fifth next spring. |
