HARRISON — Harrison defeated Westlake in straight sets — 25-18, 25-23, 25-11 — on Tuesday afternoon in a game that was streamed live on MSGVarsity.com.
The Huskies (3-0), who won last year's Section 1 Class A championship, remained perfect on the year, while the Wildcats dropped to 0-3.
Senior middle hitter Lily Stokoe paced Harrison with 10 kills, three aces and two digs.
"I was very motivated to win and everyone was pumping us up," said Stokoe, who was named all-section last year as a junior. "This was one of the biggest crowds we've ever had."
While Westlake eventually succumbed to a veteran Huskies squad, the Wildcats scratched and clawed in a back-and-forth second set.
"We knew coming in they would be threat," Stokoe said. "To be able to beat them in three straight was very impressive."
Jessica Segal quarterbacked Harrison's offense, racking up three assists, six kills and two aces.
"This gave us confidence and we can only go up from here," said Segal, who was named Player of the Year in Harrison's league last season. "We wanted to become more consistent, work hard and play team ball."
For Westlake, Christina Sialiano led the way with two aces, five kills and eight digs. Teammate Christina Rizzo chipped in with eight digs.
