HV, Mid-Hudson teams prep BCANY semis

The showdown of the Hudson Valley is set for Sunday in Binghamton.

The Section 1-based Hudson Valley squad won its two games Saturday in the BCANY Summer Hoops Festival in Binghamton while the Section 9-based Mid-Hudson team went 1-1. It sets up a Sunday showdown in the semifinals with the Mid-Hudson team taking on the Hudson Valley for a right to play for a title.

The Hudson Valley girls finished pool play at 3-0 and will also compete in Sunday's semifinals. They lost in last year's title game.

Here are the latest results from the event so far:


SATURDAY’S RESULTS

Mid-Hudson Region (Section 9)

Boys Game 1: Adirondack 95, Mid-Hudsonk 78: Calvin Crawford of Valley Central had a game-high 23 points to lead Mid-Hudson. Justin Robinson added 17 and Justin Cooper had 10.

Boys Game 2:  Mid-Hudson 77, Central 63: Calvin Crawford had 18 points, Justin Robinson had 14 points and six assists and D.J. Mapes had 11 in the win. Tyler Lydon of Pine Plains contributed seven points and four blocks for Mid-Hudson, which advanced to the semifinals.

Hudson Valley Region (Section 1)

Boys Game 1: Hudson Valley 94, Rochester 91: Brian Daniels turned in another stellar effort for the Hudson Valley squad as they moved to 2-0. The Briarcliff rising senior recorded a team-high 20 points with five rebounds, and North Salem standout Umar Singh had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Ian Thom of Croton had 12 points and five assists and Jack Daly contributed 10 points and seven assists in the win. Mike DeMello of Kennedy added 12 points and Somers’ John Decker added 10.

Boys Game 2: Hudson Valley 80, Buffalo 69: Brian Daniels of Briarcliff recorded 17 points and five rebounds to lift Hudson Valley to its third victory and a spot in the BCANY semifinals. Jack Daly of Eastchester had 16 points, five steals and five rebounds, and Umar Singh of North Salem had 14 points and seven rebounds in the win. Kevin Degnan had 11 points for Hudson Valley, which advanced to the semifinals on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

Girls Game 1: Hudson Valley 83, Suffolk 61: Saniya Chong scored 24 points and Ossining teammate Destini Walker added 14 as Hudson Valey remained unbeaten. Maia Hood of Hamilton added 10 in the win.

Girls Game 2: Hudson Valley 105, Buffalo 88: Ossining star Saniya Chong scored 25 points and Hamilton’s Maia Hood added 24 as the Hudson Valley cruised to a victory. Destini Walker, who’ll be a sophomore at Ossining, had 18 points and Irvington’s rising senior Brittni Lai added 10 as Hudson Valley improved to 3-0 and secured a spot in Sunday’s semifinal at 11:30 a.m. If they win, they’ll play in the final at 1.

 

FRIDAY'S RESULTS

Mid-Hudson Region (Section 9)

Boys Game 1: Mid-Hudson 78, New York City 51: D.J. Mapes of Kingston scored 23 points, and Kingston teammate Justin Robinson added 13 to lead the Mid-Hudson squad to an easy victory. Zach Bouton of Cornwall had 13 in the victory.

Boys Game 2: Mid-Hudson 86, Southern Tier 72: Valley Central standout Calvin Crawford scored a team-high 24 points as the Mid-Hudson squad swept its opening night games. Mid-Hudson will face Adirondack at 9 a.m. on Saturday and then take on Central at 11:30.


Hudson Valley Region (Section 1)

Boys: Hudson Valley 76, Rochester 52: The Section 1 stars turned in a stellar defensive effort, shutting down Rochester in the opener. Brian Daniels, a senior at Briarcliff, had a team-high 17 points and five rebounds and Pearl River rising junior Kevin Degnan had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Eastchester junior Jack Daly had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Croton senior Ian Thom added six points, eight rebounds and six assists. Hudson Valley faces Suffolk on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Buffalo at 3:45 p.m.

Girls: Hudson Valley 94, Rochester 87: The Hudson Valley girls rallied back from a seven-point halftime deficit to cruise to a victory. Maia Hood, a rising senior at Hamilton, scored a team-high 28 points. Ossining teammates Saniya Chong and Destini Walker scored 24 and 20 points, respectively, and Irvington senior Brittni Lai added 13. Hudson Valley resumes play tomorrow against Suffolk at 11:30 and faces Buffalo at 2:30.
