L/P tops White Plains in Class A quarters
CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. – The top-seeded Lakeland/Panas Rebels jumped out to a fast start and cruised to a 19-7 win over No. 8 White Plains in a Section 1 Class A quarterfinal on Saturday afternoon.
The five-time defending Section 1 Class A champions held a commanding 8-2 lead at halftime and never looked back.
Emma Bozek and Molly Fitzpatrick each tallied five goals and one assist for the Rebels (15-0-2). Alexa Bonnes had four goals and one assist, while Amanda Vasta netted two goals. Chyna Hill (1G), Taylor Scialdone (1G, 1A), Kate Weldon (1G), Samantha Ressegue (1A) and Gianna Bensaia (1A) all contributed to the win. Amelia Lopez made five saves.
Lakeland/Panas coach Sharon Sharsen said “draw controls and efficient possessions” were critical in the win. She was also proud of the defensive effort.
“Our entire defense stuck to the game plan,” Sarsen said, “and took away White Plains’ strengths and took care of the ball in clearing.”
For White Plains, Hannah Ward (1A) and Kate Leone each scored two goals. Lauren Sharpe (1G), Alyssa Haberman (1G), Mary Clare O’Meara (1G, 1A) and Tess D’Arcy all chipped in. Kelsey Fee stopped 18 shots.
Lakeland/Panas will host No. 4-seeded Mamaroneck in the Section 1 Class A semifinals on Monday, May 21.
“Against Mamaroneck we need to control the draw and make good decisions in our offensive zone,” Sarsen said.
