The biggest game of the regular season is on tap for the Knights, who travel to rival New Rochelle on Thursday. The seven-time sectional champs dominated Scarsdale and Mamaroneck in their first two matchups in the region.

After Port Chester on Wednesday, the Bobcats face their toughest stretch of season with road games Friday at Greeley on Friday and against Briarcliff on Sunday at Manhattan College. It could be a matchup of future Section 1 champs.

The team defense the Pioneers played on Saturday against White Plains was fun to watch. Few teams can get in your face and defend the ball better. Jahleel Carter (27 points) has been a revelation at the point guard spot.

Friday’s win at North Rockland not only featured a tremendous level of athleticism for the Tigers. They showed great poise going on the road on a Friday night in a hostile setting and winning. This team is fearless.

There’s no harm in losing in early January. But the Spring Valley defeat should teach North Rockland about playing in the spotlight. The Red Raiders struggled mightily from the free throw line, making just 10 of 27, and had a slew of turnovers.

The Red Devils have taken care of business since their surprising loss to Panas. They have a tough matchup with upstate power Green Tech on Monday and then face Mahopac later in the week.

The Falcons continue to play consistent basketball behind veterans Jack Sullivan and Thomas McConnell. They still have league matchups left with Tappan Zee, Pearl River and Nyack, which they swept the first time around.

The Raiders picked up one of their biggest victories in five years on Tuesday, knocking off New Rochelle. You could make a very strong case at this point for Scarsdale coach Jon Feld as the coach of the year in the conference.

Were the Huguenots caught looking ahead to Thursday’s meeting with Mount Vernon when they lost to Scarsdale on Tuesday? It doesn’t matter. To truly contend in Class AA, New Rochelle has to start playing more consistent basketball.

With their lone loss to Poughkeepsie, the Eagles make a strong case as a serious contender in Class A in Section 1. Jack Daly and Co. play a fun uptempo style that only deep and athletic teams will be able to compete with.

It took an overtime buzzer-beater by Ryan Basso to knock off Carmel but the Tigers remain atop the rankings. Games like that will do this team a world of good in the playoffs.

It will be interesting to see where the Warriors settle in the standings given their schedule to close the season. Lourdes plays four Class A schools, three Class AA and Marlboro, the heavy Section 9 favorite in Class B.

Forget for a moment about the ups and downs the Eagles have had this season. They have the best player in the conference in Eric Paschall and are 6-0 against Class B teams when he’s played.

Were the Phoenix dropped from the rankings two weeks ago prematurely? Perhaps. But they deserve to be in the Top 5 as the lone undefeated team left in Section 1.

There really is no right answer to who the No. 1 team is in Section 9 given that Newburgh, Kingston and Middletown have all beaten each other. NFA has played solid basketball throughout. Give NFA the nod for now.

The Tigers were the No. 1 team in our rankings until losing to Newburgh a few weeks back. But Friday’s win over Middletown showed just how good this group can be.

Burke has really responded from a slow start to the season, losing a couple of non-conference games. Burke’s win over Cornwall last week showed this team is separating from the pack in Section 9.
