The Huskers had some anxious moments on Saturday, but they eventually cracked John Jay-CR's zone to score an 8-6 season-opening win. Contributions from midfielders Brian Prestreau (1G), Joey Raniolo (1G) and Brian Quigley (1A) shouldn't go overlooked. With Yorktown's deadly attack being the focus of opposing defenses, the middies will be left with plenty of prime chances. On Saturday, they took advantage of them. |

Goalie Thomas Branca was sublime against Yorktown. Indians coach Tim Schurr said it was the best he'd ever seen his netminder play. Jack Lambert wasn't too shabby, either. The UNC-bound long-stick middie was omnipresent around the ball. And props to Tommy Beck, who returned from last year's season-ending injury to score this year's top goal to date. |

Siena-bound attackman Kevin Cousin exploded for eight points (5G, 3A) in a season-opening win over Iona Prep. Rugged attackman Anthony Carpenter, a definite player to watch, chipped in with six points (3G, 3A). The Tuskers will need more of the same from both as a brutal schedule awaits. |

Losing 12-5 to national power Loyola-Blakefield is nothing to get concerned about. Rest-assured, that game will payoff down the road. The Rebels will look to get back on track this afternoon against Hen Hud. |

A closer-than-expected win over Brewster followed by a convincing victory over Putnam Valley. Charlie Evans, who has a team-high five goals, has emerged as one of the section's better midfielders. The Indians should be undefeated heading into an April 24 matchup against Lakeland/Panas. |

Mounties opened the season with back-to-back wins over a pair of Section 9 squads in Warwick and Pine Bush. Kevin McNally, who returned early from a broken jaw, already has 10 points (5G, 5A). Thursday's matchup against John Jay-CR will tell us a lot about Suffern. |

Nazareth-bound attackman Luke Wooters has been one of the region's most explosive players, combining to score nine goals in the Gaels' first two games. He netted six in Monday's 14-9 win over Rye. The Gaels will look to make it two in a row as they square off against rival Fordham Prep this afternoon. |
