Power rankings: WE/HV boys lacrosse (6/5)

RANK TEAM REC LW COMMENTS
1 Yorktown 16-4 1

Once again, the Huskers will meet Long Island power Garden City in the NYS Class B semifinals. Yorktown hasn't gotten past this game since 2003, when it edged Shoreham-Wading River, 6-5, en route to capturing the last of its six state titles.

2 John Jay-CR 12-7 2

Despite losing a 9-8 heartbreaker to Yorktown in the Class B sectional finals, John Jay-CR has nothing to be ashamed of. Imagine Tommy Beck, who was sidelined late in the first quarter with a wrist injury, didn't get hurt? With Beck and All-American LSM Jack Lambert returning in 2013, JJ-CR has a good shot to get back to the title game and win it.

3 Bronxville 20-1 3

Broncos stormed to a second straight Class C sectional crown and now await a showdown against Sec. 11's Shoreham-Wading River in tomorrow's NYS final four. Bronxville certainly has the firepower to advance to its first state title game in program history.

4 Iona Prep 14-8 6

Gaels suffered a 16-15 loss to Buffalo-based Bishop Timon-St. Jude in Saturday's CHSAA Class AA state final. Iona Prep — which went 12-4 over its final 16 games — came back from a 10-4 halftime deficit to nearly complete the comeback.

5 Lakeland/Panas 11-7 5

Rebels return a ton of talent in 2013 and will be the favorite in Section 1 Class A.

6 Somers 11-8 5

Tuskers will have to replace veteran leaders like Kevin Schurr and Kevin Cousin in 2013.

7 Mahopac 11-8 4

Still boggled by Mahopac's Section 1 Class A title game loss to Mamaroneck. The Indians simply let the Tigers hang around too long.

8 Rye 11-7 8

Garnets will be more of a veteran team in 2013. They will have the talent to do some damage, too.

9 Mamaroneck 10-11 10

Saturday's lopsided loss to Niskayuna doesn't take away from what the Tigers accomplished this year. As the No. 10 seed, Mamaroneck made a remarkable run to its first sectional title in program history. Virtually all of the Tigers' key players return next season, so a repeat performance isn't out of the question.

10 Byram Hills 12-5 9

Bobcats have the unenviable task of replacing three-year starting goalie Andrew Larrabee, who has been a rock for the program.
