Westchester NYSSCPA supports SW BOCES SkillsUSA

Westchester NYSSCPA supports SW BOCES SkillsUSA

The Westchester Chapter of the Young Certified Public Accountants (YCPA) Committee of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA), an organization responsible for providing professional development and establishing a high standard for professional practice, participated in a community outreach event by creating an alliance with Mrs. Amy Michaud Wells to benefit the Southern Westchester BOCES Chapter of SkillsUSA.  In total, $720.00 was raised to help finance the SW BOCES SkillsUSA trip to the State Leadership Conference held in Syracuse, NY.

At the SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference, career and technical education students from across the state showcase their technical skills and gain recognition for their hard work in an effort to have the opportunity to compete at the National Leadership Conference. This is just one of the many statewide leadership conferences held across the country by SkillsUSA, a student-centered professional organization whose mission is to create and maintain a partnership between students, teachers and industry to work together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.

Mrs. Wells, an advisor for the SkillsUSA SW BOCES Chapter, coordinates fundraising and sponsorship opportunities on behalf of students involved in the student organization.  Her husband, Mr. Edward Wells, is a member of the NYSSCPA and the co-chair of the Westchester Chapter of the Young CPA Committee, a committee that seeks outreach opportunities to benefit the communities in which the members work and live. Mr. Wells offered to share information about SkillsUSA and the curriculum the students study at SW BOCES with his co-chair, Ms. Heather Oboda. It was then decided that Mr. Wells and Ms. Oboda would present the idea to help SkillsUSA to the Westchester Chapter of the YCPA Committee in an effort to coordinate an outreach event to help the students of SW BOCES who represent various communities throughout lower Westchester.
