OUTLOOK
Fresh off of a 1-0 defeat of Section 4’s top-ranked Oneonta in the NYS Class B regional finals, Bronxville square off against Section 2’s Schalmont in its quest to repeat as state champions.
Overall, this match will pit Bronxville's smothering defense against the high-scoring Sabers offense.
Broncos senior keeper Grace Devlin now has 17 shutouts on the season and the team has only allowed two goals since a 4-1 loss to Scarsdale in their season opener.
Devlin will certainly have her work cut out for her. Schalmont's high-powered offense is led by senior striker Megan Strijek, who recorded her 100th career goal in a 1-0 win over Section 8’s Beekmantown in the regional finals. The late goal by Strijek pushed Schalmont to the final four for just the second time in school history.
For Bronxville — which edged three-time defending state champ Briarcliff en route to winning the last year's state crown — this is now familiar territory.
“We’ve played on these fields before and that makes it easier,” Bronxville senior forward Ashley Geitl said. “But at the same time we don’t take it lightly. These are hard teams and nothing comes easy.”
UP NEXT
The winner will advance face either Section 8’s Cold Spring Harbor or Section 5’s Greece Odyssey in the state finals at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.
