Yonkers downs Riverside

YONKERS — Yonkers scored a 3-1 — 25-14, 25-14, 20-25, 25-13 — victory over city rival Riverside on Tuesday in a game that was streamed live on MSGVarsity.com.
The Bulldogs (5-1) have won five straight since dropping their season opener to Scarsdale.
"We have really been working on our defense and our hitters have really played well." Yonkers coach Alicia Murray said.
Sophomore Karolina Fik paced the Bulldogs with 11 assists, six kills and three aces. Teammates Tara Herrera (10 kills), Kristella Morina (six aces, eight kills) and Kirstein Labaso (four aces) also contributed.
Emilee Leon led the Rams (2-4) with five aces and two assists. Teammates Angelin Raposo (two aces, four kills), Destiny Maldonado (five assists) and Michelle Rodriguez (three aces, three kills) rounded out the production.
Yonkers will look to make it six wins in a row as it heads on the road to square off against Solomon Schechter on Thursday. Riverside will host Tuckahoe in its next game at home on Saturday.
